ROSEMONT, Ill. -- In conjunction with ESPN, the Big Ten and Atlantic Coast Conferences, the University of Michigan men's basketball team announced today (Thursday, May 1) the Wolverines will host Syracuse in the 2014 ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Crisler Center. It is the first time the Maize and Blue and Orange will meet in a Challenge game.

With the ACC expanding to 15 teams following the addition of Louisville for the upcoming 2014-15 season, Boston College will not participate in the 14-game event, which will be played over a three-day period -- Monday through Wednesday, Dec. 1-3. All Challenge games will be televised on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU, with platforms and times being announced at a later date.

Michigan has appeared in 13 of the 15 Challenges, holding a 5-8 all-time record. The Wolverines carry a 3-3 home record, winning their Challenge match-up in Ann Arbor against N.C. State, 79-72, during the 2012 series.

Overall, Michigan trails in the all-time series with Syracuse, 8-6. The Wolverines last faced the Orange in the 2013 NCAA National Semifinal, where U-M claimed a 61-56 win to advance to its first national championship game in 20 years. U-M holds a 2-1 record against Syracuse in Ann Arbor, with a 4-3 mark in neutral-site games and a 0-4 road record.

Last season, the Big Ten and ACC split the challenge with six wins each for the second straight season. The Big Ten, which retained the Commissioner's Cups the last two seasons holding the tiebreaker, has won three Challenges outright from 2009 to 2011, following the ACC winning the Challenge in each of the first 10 seasons.
