Jackson, Pilipovich Join Michigan Men's Basketball Staff

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's basketball program announced today (Friday, May 27) the hiring of Mike Jackson, as an assistant coach, and Dave Pilipovich, as the program's administrative assistant.mention.

"We are excited that Mike and Dave have joined our program and university community," said U-M coach Tommy Amaker. "Mike and Dave have accomplished many great things during their coaching careers, but it was their strong dedication, attitudes and character that made them the right fit for Michigan."

Jackson comes to the Wolverine program after working as an assistant coach the last two years at the University of Dayton (2003-05). Prior to his stint at Dayton, he served as an assistant coach at the University of Toledo for two years (2001-03).

Jackson began his coaching career after graduating from the University of Detroit in 1995 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. In five years as an assistant coach (1996-2001), he helped the Titans to two NCAA appearances in 1998 and 1999 and a semifinal appearance in the 2001 NIT. As a player, Jackson was a four-year letterwinner for the Titans, and was the first Detroit player to score 1,000 points (1,125) and dish for 400 assists (422) in his career. Jackson and his wife, Amira, have a son, Mylan, and a daughter, Amani.

Pilipovich served as an assistant coach at Eastern Michigan University for the past five years (2000-05) prior to joining the Michigan staff. Before his stint at EMU, he served four years as an assistant coach at Robert Morris University (1996-2000), two years an assistant coach at Georgia State University (1994-96) and two years as the assistant head coach at Florida Atlantic University (1989-91) before being named associate head coach the following four years (1991-94). Pilipovich began his coaching career serving as a graduate assistant at California University (Pa.) for two years (1986-88), before being named as an assistant coach for one season (1988-89).

A 1986 graduate of Theil College in Greenville, Pa., with a business administration degree, Pilipovich earned four varsity basketball letters and served as team captain during his senior season. He earned his masters from California (Pa.) in 1988 in geography and regional planning. He is an active member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and continues to server on the NABC Assistant Coaches Committee. Pilipovich and his wife, Kelly, have a son, Kyle, and a daughter, Kelsey.
