ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's basketball head coach John Beilein announced today (Friday, June 5) that the Wolverines have signed to play a home-and-home series with 2008 national champions and perennial national power Kansas, and will host 2009 Final Four participant Connecticut at Crisler Arena next season.
The Wolverines will start the two-game series against Bill Self's Jayhawks on the road at the famed Phog Allen Field House on Saturday, Dec. 19, in Lawrence, Kan. Kansas is scheduled to make the return trip to Crisler Arena the following year and the contest is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011. After playing UConn last season in Storrs, Conn., the Huskies will head to Ann Arbor to face the Wolverines on Sunday, Jan. 17, at Crisler Arena.
As U-M's non-conference schedule continues to take shape for the upcoming 2009-10 season, five other matchups have been slated. The Maize and Blue will participate in the 2009 Old Spice Classic in Orlando, Fla., Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 26-29. A total of eight teams will play three games in the Thanksgiving Tournament at the Milk House at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. Joining U-M in the field is Alabama, Baylor, Creighton, Florida State, Iona, Marquette and Xavier.
Two other games on U-M's docket include hosting Boston College on Wednesday, Dec. 2, in the 2009 Big Ten/ACC Challenge game at Crisler Arena and heading to Salt Lake City, Utah, to take on defending Mountain West champions Utah at Jon M. Huntsman Center on Wednesday, Dec. 9.
