Robinson Set for Departure with Big Ten Foreign Team
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan rising junior Bernard Robinson Jr. (Washington, D.C./New Hampton Prep [N.H.]) has been selected to play with the 2002 Big Ten Conference Foreign Tour team on an 11-day trip (Aug. 8-18) through Europe, with stops in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.


The touring team, which will be coached by Illinois' Bill Self, will spend four nights in Germany (Aug. 8-11), four in Belgium (Aug. 12-15) and then two in the Netherlands (Aug. 16-17) before returning to the United States Aug. 18. While there, the Big Ten team will play six exhibition games against top teams from the host countries.

Joining Robinson on the travel roster are: Illinois' Sean Harrington and Roger Powell, Indiana's Tom Coverdale, Iowa's Jared Reiner, Michigan State's Chris Hill, Minnesota's Ben Johnson, Northwestern's Winston Blake, Ohio State's Velimir Redinovic, Penn State's Jason McDougald, Purdue's Ivan Kartelo and Wisconsin's Dave Mader.

The Big Ten Foreign Tours have given more than 220 student-athletes the opportunity to travel abroad, to such places as Japan, France, Italy, Finland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, England and Ireland. In 10 years of competition, the men's teams have posted a 42-28 record.
