ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's basketball team has drawn Long Beach State as its opening game of the 2013 Puerto Rico Tip-Off announced today (Tuesday, July 16) by ESPN Regional Television. The Wolverines' first game is scheduled Thursday, Nov. 21, with a 6 p.m. AST tipoff and will be televised on ESPN2.
U-M will face either Florida State or VCU in its second game of the tournament on Friday, Nov. 22. If the Wolverines win their opening game, they will play the winner of that match-up at 6 p.m. on either ESPN2 or ESPNU; if they lose, they will play the loser at 8:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
In its seventh year, the Puerto Rico Tip-Off will feature a highly touted eight-team field including Charlotte, Florida State, Georgetown, Kansas State, Long Beach State, U-M, Northeastern and VCU. The preseason event will feature all 12 games televised on an ESPN Network -- ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3.
The tournament marks the second time the Wolverines have played an in-season event in Puerto Rico. During the 1997-98 season, U-M competed in the 1997 Puerto Rico Holiday Classic in San Juan at the Eugene Guerra Sports Complex. The Wolverines went 3-0 at the event before the season was vacated due to NCAA sanctions.
Additional information, including travel packages, can be found on the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Web site.
