Bartelstein Blog: Summer Days Going Fast, the Rookies and the League

Aug. 12, 2011

Junior guard Josh Bartelstein will give an inside look all season at the 2011-12 version of the Wolverines.

What's up everyone!

We are finishing the last 10 days of the summer semester and the start of the real school year is just a month away. Can you believe it? The summer has been really productive so far between weights, open gyms and, of course, classes.

This week we are doing our strength and speed testing. This means after eight weeks of working out, it is time to see how much better we have gotten. It is actually really cool because everyone on our team has made dramatic improvements.

From vertical jump to hang clean, the numbers have skyrocketed up. This is a testament to Coach Sanderson and Coach Fletcher, but also all the hard work our team has put in. Every morning at 8 a.m., we are there working our tails off and it pays off. These improvements translate on to the court in October; just wait and see!

So far, I have received a ton of questions on our four new freshmen -- Trey Burke, Carlton Brundidge, Max Bielfeldt and Sai Tummala. Well, let me start by saying they have all done a great job of getting used to the "Michigan" way.

Sure there are times they all act as freshmen, but overall, they have done a great job. As teammates, I couldn't ask for anymore. Trey is an aggressive attacking point guard with a big-time jump shot. Carlton finishes as well at the basket as any small guard I have seen and has an explosive first step. Sai is a tremendous athlete who is going to really surprise some people, and Max is a skilled big man who plays his behind off. I feel very confident in saying all four will have great success before all is said and done.

This coming Thursday will be a very historic for some players on our team. It isn't a final or date night, but the first ever Michigan basketball team fantasy football draft. I must first say this league is for fun only and there are NO prizes.

Pride is on the line, along with a lot of trash talking.

Each week during the season I can update you on league standings and league trash talk. I'm interested in whom the fans think will win this league. Send in your answer to before Thursday night and I'll tell the team the consensus. Who knows, we might even do it at Buffalo Wild Wings.

I will post each player's team next week and write more often once school and workouts really get going.

That's all for now. Hope you are all as excited for the season as we are. It's going to be special.
