• 2013-14 Michigan Men's Basketball Non-Conference Schedule
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's basketball team has announced its 2013-14 non-conference schedule today (Friday, Aug. 23) that features six home dates including Arizona, an appearance in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, a Big Ten/ACC Challenge game at Duke and a return trip to Brooklyn's Barclays Center to face Stanford.
"Once again we will have a very challenging non-conference schedule," said U-M head coach John Beilein. "Early road contests at Iowa State, at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, at Duke and in Brooklyn against Stanford will be a terrific opportunity for our young team to prepare for another strong Big Ten season. We are excited to begin a series with an excellent Arizona team. We love having that start as a first semester Saturday home game while our students are still in session. As in our previous years, we expect our overall strength of a schedule will be one of the best in the NCAA."
The Wolverines host a pair of exhibition games against Concordia on Oct. 29 and Wayne State on Nov. 4 before opening the regular season against UMass Lowell on Nov. 8. The season opener will be highlighted with a pregame ceremony and banner raising ceremony for U-M's 2013 Final Four team and appearance.
Along with the UMass Lowell opener, U-M plays host to five more home games highlighted by Arizona on Dec. 14. The Wolverines will have games at Crisler Center against South Carolina State on Nov. 12, Coppin State on Nov. 29, Houston Baptist on Dec. 7 and close the non-conference slate against Holy Cross, Dec. 28.
U-M plays the first of six non-conference road contests at Iowa State on Nov. 17. After defeating the Cyclones, 76-66, at Crisler Center in 2011, the series took a one-year hiatus, but will now close out the home-and-home contract at the Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa.
The Wolverines will remain on the road as they travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico, for the Puerto Rico Tip-Off from Nov. 21-24, at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente. U-M faces Long Beach State in its opening tournament game on Nov. 21, before facing either Florida State or VCU in its second game on Nov. 22. The tournament concludes on Nov. 24.
U-M's other non-conference road games will include a trip to Durham, N.C., to face Duke in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Dec. 3, and a return trip to Brooklyn, N.Y., and the Barclays Center for a game against Stanford on Dec. 21.
The Big Ten portion of the schedule has yet to be released. However, U-M will have four single play games among its 18-game conference slate with home games against Northwestern and Penn State and road games at Ohio State and Illinois, which are part of ESPN's Super Tuesday lineup. The Wolverines face the Buckeyes on Feb. 11, and play the Fighting Illini on March 4.
In addition to the pair of Super Tuesday games, the Big Ten has previously announced U-M's game at Michigan State on Jan. 25, which will be part of ESPN's College GameDay. Postseason play begins with the Big Ten Tournament returning to Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind., on March 13-15.
Season ticket renewals for the 2013-14 season will take place over the next few weeks. For additional information on 2013-14 Men's Basketball tickets, please be sure to sign up for Michigan Insider.
