What's up everyone?
I hope you are all having a great week after watching our football team pull off a tough win against Air Force. It doesn't matter if you win by 45 or seven, a win is a win. So good job boys!
We are right in the middle of preseason workouts with the excitement of our first practice about a month away. I cannot even believe the season is right around the corner.
This preseason has had a complete new emphasis than in years past. In prior years, we focused a lot of skill work, shooting and passing. This year, we have spent 95 percent of the time on defense -- from slides, to being in gaps, to taking charges.
Our goal is to be the best defensive team in the country.
The idea behind spending so much time on defense is simple -- we want to get out and run. The only way to run is to get stops on defense. Our defense is going to lead to our offense. If you think about our best wins last year -- home against Wisconsin, Purdue on the road and then Michigan State at home -- we really got in a stance and locked guys up.
The most exciting part of this process is that the team has completely bought in. The idea of running and gunning is something every player dreams about, and it is showing with how hard everyone is working and the energy in the gym.
Now, I have another story for you. It is a story that really should have been an episode of Seinfeld.
One day this summer in July, with the temperature at like 103 degrees, I decided I wanted to go work on my tan and lay outside -- everyone looks better with a nice tan. Our house has a porch off the second floor, which is perfect for lying outside. I knew I wouldn't be able to stay out there long because it was so hot, but I needed some vitamin D.
As I'm lying outside, Jordan (Morgan) comes out to make fun of me saying I should be on the Jersey Shore and tells me that he and Tim (Hardaway Jr.) were going to the mall. They leave. I'm getting a great tan listening to Call Me Maybe and life is good. It gets to that point where I've had enough. I'm dripping in sweat and just want to go back inside to my AC.
That is until I try and go back inside and somehow the door is locked. I'm pulling on the door, turning the knob, but that door isn't opening and its 110 degrees on my phone now. I know for a fact I didn't lock that door, but I know that instinctually Jordan locks every door no matter what the door leads to.
Right away, I know he locked me out! I look down, but the porch is too high to jump off without me breaking something. I'm furious with Jordan and cannot wait to scream at him on the phone for locking me out of my own house. Just one small issue, my phone now says heat warning, and I cannot make any calls.
For a second, I thought that could be it for me, one of the most embarrassing ways for me to die, on my own porch, but at least I would go out really tan. I also was thinking this really would make a great blog entry if I would be around to write about.
About an hour passes by and I'm just baking in the sun. By this point I'm beyond Jersey Shore tan, just as red as a tomato. All the sudden I hear Tim laughing and I begin banging on the door with all the strength I have left (I'm being a little dramatic). Jordan is right behind him and they have the nerve to ask me why I'm sweating so much and tell me that I was outside for too long because now I am burnt.
I'll let you only imagine what I said to both of them. Remember I have to keep things PG in my blog.
Now for a little update on everyone's two favorite people from the state of Indiana -- Stu (Douglass) and Zack (Novak). They are both enjoying their times in Spain and Holland, respectively. They are in training camp right now enjoying two-a-days, but also trying to embrace the culture and have some fun. I will try and keep you updated all year on them. In fact, I hear that I will have some blog competition this year as Novak will be penning things from overseas -- should be interesting. Just remember who began this whole thing.
With that I hope everyone has a great weekend, with another win for our football team.
