ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan and its official apparel provider, adidas, unveiled new ultra lightweight adizero men's basketball uniforms for the 2012-13 season on Wednesday (Oct. 10). The adidas adizero uniforms are 32 percent lighter than previous Michigan uniforms and are designed to reduce weight and add breathability to keep players lighter and faster on the court.
The jersey features uniform technology that adidas first introduced in the NBA. The technology reduces seams, decreases friction between the garment and the player's skin, and optimizes the player's natural movement through specially constructed material. The CLIMACOOL fabric moves heat and sweat away from the body for optimal moisture-wicking and breathability to keep the jersey from becoming heavy during intense sweating.
The adizero uniform short is unlined to eliminate unnecessary weight and provide a more comfortable, closer fit with compression base layers. The short's stretch woven material works with the body's natural movement to increase mobility during quick lateral movements and sprints.
"We're excited to give the University of Michigan the latest adidas basketball innovations built specifically for the best players in the country," said Lawrence Norman, adidas Vice President of Global Basketball. "Our goal is to help every athlete be lighter and faster on court, and the new adizero uniform will help Michigan elevate its play for the biggest games."
The uniforms design is a modern take on the traditional maize and blue uniforms and feature bold trim lines down the side and a new Wolverine print comprised of pixelated block "M" lettering inspired by the rich tradition of Michigan athletics. The Wolverine print fades from smaller to larger font down the jersey's neckline to the chest panel and outward along the trim of each short leg.
adidas Michigan fan gear, including the new adizero basketball uniform, will be available this season at local M-Den locations and online at www.mden.com.
U-M Senior/Junior Forward Jordan Morgan
On his first impression of the new uniforms ... "They're really nice. I like the new design and they're really light -- I like the light material. I also really like how the design on the shorts is made of little block M's. It's a refreshing take on our uniform."
On having the Big Ten logo on the front of the jersey ... "I like having the Big Ten logo on the chest. We're representing what we feel is one of the best conferences out there. When it comes to out-of-conference play, it's great to be representing where we come from."
U-M Junior Guard Tim Hardaway Jr..
On his first reaction after seeing the new uniform ... "Just touching the new uniforms, they feel really comfortable and I like the new design. If you feel good you play good. That's my mindset every time I go out there. It's great that we're getting new uniforms, and I'm looking forward to our first opportunity to wear them."
