ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Television arrangements for eight University of Michigan men's basketball games have been set, with Fox Sports Detroit to broadcast two games and UPN-50 to televise six Wednesday night ESPN-Plus games in the Detroit metro area.
Fox Sports Detroit will first pick up the Fox Sports broadcast of the Wolverines game against Butler on Sunday, Nov. 30, at Conseco Field House in Indianapolis, Ind. The game against the Bulldogs is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
Fox Sports Detroit will then pick up the broadcast of the Maize and Blue road game at Vanderbilt on Saturday, Dec. 6, in Nashville, Tenn. The broadcast for the Wolverines game will either be joined live in progress or tape delayed following the completion of the Detroit Red Wings road game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, which begins at 7 p.m.
UPN-50 will pick up the broadcasts of six U-M regular-season Big Ten Conference games which are part of the Wednesday night ESPN-Plus local package. UPN-50 will air live the home contest against Northwestern (Jan. 7) at 7 p.m., the road game at Wisconsin (Jan. 21) at 9 p.m. and the Iowa home game (Jan. 28) at 7 p.m.
Michigan's road game at Minnesota (Feb. 11) and the home game against Penn State (Feb. 18) will be tape delayed to 10 p.m. due to UPN-50's obligations to Detroit Pistons games. The sixth game, at Indiana (March 3), will be aired live at either 6 or 8 p.m., but could be switched if ESPN chooses to air the game Tuesday, March 2 at 7 p.m. ESPN will make its decision 30 days prior to the game.
Three of U-M's other Big Ten games -- at Penn State (Jan. 24), against Purdue (Feb. 7) and at Iowa (Feb. 14) -- will be part of the ESPN-Plus regional package. There could be the option of a fourth regional broadcast game at Northwestern (March 6) if CBS does not choose the game for March 7 broadcast. CBS will make its decision six days prior to the game.
U-M will make at least eight national television appearances during the 2003-04 season, with six games on CBS, one on ESPN and one on ESPN2.
