ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- After being ranked fifth by the ESPN/USA Today Coaches preseason poll last week, the University of Michigan men's basketball team was again selected with a preseason No. 5 ranking by Associated Press today (Friday, Oct. 26). It is Michigan's highest preseason AP ranking since the 1993-94* season and was selected for the preseason poll for the third time in four seasons.

Indiana is ranked as the nation's preseason No. 1, while No. 2 Louisville, defending national champion and No. 3 Kentucky, and No. 4 Ohio State round out the top five. A total of five Big Ten Conference teams are ranked in the preseason top 25, with Michigan State coming in at No. 14 and Wisconsin at No. 24.

So far in the preseason, Michigan has been rated among the top 10 in seven listings, with the highest ranking of No. 3 coming from Lindy's. U-M was ranked No. 5 by the Associated Press, ESPN/USA Today Coaches, Blue Ribbon and The Sporting News. U-M was positioned No. 6 by Athlon and Dick Vitale's Top 40.

The Wolverines will begin the 2012-13 season with a pair of exhibition contests at the newly renovated Crisler Center. U-M will take on Northern Michigan on Thursday (Nov. 1), followed by a Monday, Nov. 5, game against Saginaw Valley State. Both exhibition games are scheduled to tip at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast via MGoBlueTV and BTN.com.
