Sophomore guard Josh Bartelstein will give an inside look all season at the 2010-11 version of the Wolverines.
It's Friday which means Halloween is right around the corner. I'm guessing Evan (Smotrycz) will have the best costume on our team because he has probably spent the last week planning out exactly what he wanted to wear. If you didn't know, Evan self-proclaimed himself the funniest person on our team on media day, comparing himself to Will Ferrell. Enough said.
Speaking of Halloween, Zack (Novak) and I had a scare the other day.
Before you can understand what happened you must know that we have had a problem with leaving our front door unlocked, (for this reason I can't divulge our address) which we have been working on. Stu (Douglass) is the biggest culprit of this but I'll give him credit he is improving, however I did take away the garage opener from him.
Anyway, Zack, Stu and I constantly joke around that one day our stuff is going to be stolen because anyone can get into our house. It really isn't funny at all. One night Matt (Vogrich), Blake (McLimans), Zack, Colton (Christian) and I went out to dinner at the Black Pearl (great restaurant by the way, highly recommend the salmon). Zack and I were driving Colton back to West Quad and Matt and Blake were going to come hang out.
We pull up to our house and our door is wide open with no one inside. We immediately assume the worst because we knew this day was coming. I go check my room praying they didn't take anything of mine and that the wind just blew the door open. After looking around for 10 seconds, panic sets in that my computer is gone. I yell down to Novak, "my computer is missing" and I assume he is running upstairs to come help me out, but no, he darts right to his room to check out his computer and it's gone.
It just so happened Novak got a brand new MacBook computer earlier that week that he likes more than life right now and if anyone touches it, drops it or scratches there will be a severe penalty. Vogrich threw it onto his bed once and that wasn't a good move. If someone were to steal Novak's computer, it would be very, very bad let's just leave it at that.
Novak and I are flustered. We don't really know what to do, our stuff is stolen and we now realize the robbers also took our video games. It's one thing to take my computer, but to also take my Madden was just crossing the line. Zack was on edge and was close to punching a hole in the wall. At that time Matt and Blake walk in smiling like they are walking in the park. They sense something is really wrong and begin to prod to see what exactly is going on.
At that point Matt and Blake admitted to me they had beaten us to our house and hid all our stuff in their car parked down the street, but Zack was so mad they didn't want to tell him because they weren't sure what he would do to them. Zack is still storming around and they yell to Novak they have his computer and then sprint out of the house so nothing will happen to them.
Five minutes later, they bring the stolen goods back in, Novak is more relieved than mad and just gives his computer a hug. Since this day our house has been on extreme lockdown, we triple-check to make sure every door is locked and sealed shut!
On a more important note, our first game is a week away and I can't wait. We are ready to play against people not wearing a Michigan practice jersey and see how we compare to other teams. I'll get back at you guys soon.
