Oct. 29, 2012

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's basketball sophomore guard Trey Burke (Columbus, Ohio/Northland HS) was named to the Associated Press preseason All-America team today (Monday, Oct. 29), as voted upon from a 65-member national media panel.

Joining Burke on the All-America team are Indiana's Cody Zeller, Ohio State's Deshaun Thomas, Creighton's Doug McDermott, Murray State's Isaiah Canaan and Lehigh's C.J. McCollum.

Recently selected to the Preseason All-Big Ten team at the conference media day, Burke has been named a preseason All-America second team member by Athlon and CBSSports.com, as well as a third-team selection by the Sporting News.

Last season, Burke was named U-M's first Associated Press All-America honorable mention since 1998, averaging 14.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.6 assists in his first season. He helped the Wolverines to a 24-10 record, a share of the Big Ten regular-season title and a second straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. His 156 assists broke U-M's 27-year-old record for assists in a single season by a freshman, previously held by Gary Grant (140, 1984-85).

The Wolverines begin the 2012-13 campaign with a pair of exhibition contests at the newly renovated Crisler Center. U-M takes on Northern Michigan on Thursday, Nov. 1, followed with a Monday, Nov. 5, game against Saginaw Valley State. Both exhibition games are scheduled to tip at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast via MGoBlue.com All-Access.
