I'm going to start this blog with my record of the exhibition game against Concordia.
Overall it was a great game. They were a well-coached and a hard-working team who gave us a fabulous exhibition game. Here is the rundown of how I saw the game and my interpretation of it:
Glenn can hoop. Nik doesn't miss. Caris is not a fun person to guard. Jordan (Morgan) is a 30-year-old veteran who does everything right. Jon will get every single rebound. Max (Bielfeldt) is a tank. Spike (Albrecht) is the basketball version of Peyton Manning. Derrick (Walton Jr.) can see the court. Zak (Irvin) can score in a lot of ways. Mitch (McGary) was almost on my level of suaveness wearing his suit. Mark (Donnal) can shoot, but we already knew that.
Now let's discuss the real contributors, the walk-ons. Sean can attack the hoop at will. Andrew is shiftier than people thought. And I just look good when I'm out there, so I don't even really need to do anything.
I feel like that pretty much sums up the game. Now it's time to talk about life as a Michigan basketball player.
To start it off, life's good. Coach Beilein gave us Halloween off, which was very chill of him. He says we needed a day to rest up and enjo y the day, but I think the real reason is he wants to go trick-or-treating. I'm willing to bet 100 pushups that Coach B is the type of guy to give out analyzed highlight film to a little kid who comes to his house trick-or-treating. (I'm trying to see who actually reads my blog so this is Coach B's test.)
We also had media day last week and I learned some valuable life lessons about our team.
Apparently people say I have the worst playlist on the team. I'm going to have to agree to disagree. I know deep down Caris and Derrick like my country and techno music. They're just scared to admit it. But as Albert Einstein once said, "haters gonna hate." I'm just going to keep doing me and putting my music on in the locker room. I did bench 240 so there really is not much they can do about it anyway.
I know in my last blog I said I would discuss the match-up between Zak and Glenn but since games have started they are not competing against each other as much. Now it has become the Scout Team against the world.
Some of you may be wondering what is the Scout Team but don't worry, I'll give you the rundown. Basically the Scout Team is made up of the best players on the team who do not get playing time. Think about it ... it will make sense.
Word on the street is last year's Scout Team beat the starters on the regular so we have a lot of expectations to live up to. In my upcoming blogs I will let you know the exploits of the Scout Team.
P.S. Our current name for the Scout Team is the 'Blue Mob' but we're working on a new name. Feel free to tweet at me at @cmcconnell4 any creative names you can think that are better. If the names are halfway decent they will be considered.
