Nov. 16, 2012

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's basketball team in conjunction with ESPN Regional Television announced today (Friday, Nov. 16) the Wolverines will be part of the 2013 Puerto Rico Tip-Off tournament field to be held Nov. 21, 22 and 24 at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico, in the cosmopolitan Hato Rey district of San Juan.

In its seventh year, the 2013 Puerto Rico Tip-Off will feature a highly touted eight-team field including Auburn, Charlotte, Florida State, Georgetown, Kansas State, Long Beach State, Michigan and VCU.

The tournament will feature a bracket format with 12 games over three days. Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through the bracket. The two teams that remain undefeated throughout will face off in a game on the final day of competition. Exact dates, tipoff times and games for the event will be announced at a later date.

The tournament marks the second time the Wolverines have played an in-season event in Puerto Rico. During the 1997-98 season, U-M competed in the 1997 Puerto Rico Holiday Classic in San Juan at the Eugene Guerra Sports Complex. The Wolverines went 3-0 at the event, before the season was vacated due to NCAA Sanctions.

Previous winners of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off include Alabama, Minnesota, Villanova, Xavier and Miami (Fla.). Additional information, including travel packages, can be found on the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Web site.
