The University of Michigan men's basketball team is back in action on Saturday (Nov. 29) when it hosts Savannah State at 2 p.m. at Crisler Arena. The contest will be available via live, free webcast on BigTenNetwork.com and can also be heard via radio throughout the state of Michigan on the Michigan Sports Network or worldwide on the internet at MGoBlue.com.
Last time out, the Maize and Blue earned an 83-49 victory over Norfolk State on Tuesday (Nov. 25). En route to the win, five Wolverines scored in double figures against the Spartans, led by 16 points from sophomore Manny Harris(Detroit, Mich./Redford HS). In addition, Harris grabbed a career-best 15 rebounds, recording his second double-double of the season to help U-M post a season-best 53 total boards in the game.
Other Wolverines scoring in double figures included junior/sophomore Anthony Wright(Sterling, Va./Oak Hill Academy), who had 12, junior DeShawn Sims(Detroit, Mich./Pershing HS) and senior Jevohn Shepherd(Toronto, Ontario/West Hill Collegiate), who added 11 apiece, and freshman Zack Novak(Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton HS), who had a career-best 10.
Saturday's matchup will be the first-ever meeting between Michigan and Savannah State. The Tigers are one of 10 schools playing Division I basketball as an independent. Savannah State comes to Ann Arbor with a 4-1 record. Its lone loss came in the Tigers' last game at Clemson on Tuesday (Nov. 25), 81-49. Savannah State is being led by Rashad Hassan, who is averaging 12.8 points per contest, while Chris Linton adds 9.4 points per game and a team-best 6.0 rebounds.
