The University of Michigan men's basketball team will meet Duke (No. 4 AP/No. 4 ESPN/USA Today) for the second time in just 15 days when the Wolverines and Blue Devils square off on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 6) at Crisler Arena. The contest is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN. The game can also be heard on radio throughout the state of Michigan on the Michigan Sports Network or worldwide on the internet at MGoBlue.com.
The first time Michigan and Duke met this year was in the championship game of the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer (Nov. 21). The Blue Devils won that meeting, 71-56. Sophomore guard Manny Harris(Detroit, Mich./Redford HS) led the Maize and Blue in the contest with 25 points.
Saturday's game will also be the second for U-M against an ACC opponent in four days. Last Wednesday (Dec. 3), the Wolverines fell on the road at Maryland, 75-70, in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Harris led the way against the Terrapins with 15 points. Junior forward DeShawn Sims(Detroit, Mich./Pershing HS) and freshman guard Zack Novak(Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton HS) each added 12, while sophomore guard Kelvin Grady(Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids HS) also reached double figures with 11.
The contest with the Blue Devils will also be the second time this season that U-M has played a team ranked fourth in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches polls. The Maize and Blue defeated then-No. 4-ranked UCLA, 55-52, on Nov. 20. Duke comes to Ann Arbor with a perfect 8-0 record. The last time out, the Blue Devils earned a 76-60 victory at Purdue in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Kyle Singler is leading the way for Duke, averaging 17.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest. Singler is one of four Blue Devils averaging in double figures. Jon Scheyer (13.0), Nolan Smith (12.4) and Gerald Henderson (10.3) are the other three.
