2003-04 BKM at Vanderbilt -- Postgame Notes

Bernard Robinson Jr., Daniel Horton, Lester Abram, Chris Hunter and Courtney Sims started tonight's game for Michigan.

Michigan had just two players in double figures for the first time this season. Bernard Robinson Jr. had 14 and J.C. Mathis had 13.

For the fourth time in five games, Michigan won the jump ball. The Wolverines are now 3-1 when winning the opening tip.

For the fifth straight game, Michigan scored the first points of the game. The Wolverines are now 4-1 when scoring first.

Tonight's game marked the eighth meeting between Michigan and Vanderbilt. The loss drops U-M's record against the Commodores to 6-2, including a 2-2 line when playing at Nashville, Tenn.

For the first time this season, Michigan lost the battle of the boards. The Wolverines were out-rebounded 42-24.

Vanderbilt's 40 halftime points are the most allowed by the Wolverines this season. Michigan had previously allowed 34 points to both North Carolina State (Dec. 2) and Oakland (Nov. 21).

For the first time this season, Michigan trailed at halftime. The Wolverines were down 40-33 at the break against the Commodores.

Tonight's game was the second road contest of the season for Michigan. The Wolverines are now 1-1 on the road.

The Maize and Blue wore their blue jerseys tonight. Michigan is now 1-1 when donning its blue jerseys.

Michigan allowed an opponent to score over 70 points (83) for the first time this season. It marks the most points that Michigan has allowed in 14 games dating back to last season when it was outscored 87-80 at Minnesota on Feb. 1, 2003.

The last time the Wolverines lost by 20 or more points was last season when they traveled to Wisconsin and lost 73-42 on Feb. 26.

With 12 points in the first half, Bernard Robinson Jr. surpassed the 1,150-point mark in his career. The plateau-breaking score came on a three-point play with 6:15 to go in the first half. Robinson went on to score 14 points in the second half and now has 1,156 points in his career. He is the 38th Wolverine to score more than 1,000 points in his career.

Robinson notched a season-high four steals, his second highest output in that category. His career-high five came on Dec. 3, 2002, against Central Michigan.

With 117 steals in his career, Robinson passed Mike McGee (1977-81) to move into a tie for eighth place on U-M's career list with Jalen Rose (1991-94).

Robinson picked up the 250th assist of his career. He had four on the night to give him a total of 252.

J.C. Mathis' 13 points are the highest for him in a Michigan jersey. His career-high 20 points came while he was playing for Virginia against VMI on Jan. 24, 2002.

Brent Petway recorded a career-high three blocks. On the season, the freshman has seven swats in five games.
