ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- For the second time this season, the University of Michigan men's basketball team will get the opportunity to play in an NBA arena in New York City. After winning the NIT Season Tip-Off at Madison Square Garden during the week of Thanksgiving, the Wolverines will now face West Virginia in the Brooklyn Winter Hoops Festival on Saturday (Dec. 15) at the Barclays Center.
Prior to departing for the Big Apple, again, the team held a media roundtable on Friday (Dec. 14) at the William Davidson Player Development Center.
U-M Senior Guard Josh Bartelstein
On their second trip to play in New York City ... "We're really excited. We're playing a great team in West Virginia and to have the Michigan alumni base out in Brooklyn is great. Everyone is talking about the fan support, so I think that's the coolest things, is to play on a big stage in front of a ton of fans that don't normally get to see us."
On Michigan's fan base in New York ... "It's unbelievable. We're playing on the road, but it's going to be Crisler Center in Brooklyn, so we'll be the home team and it will be loud as ever and there will be people singing The Victors hopefully. It will be special."
On what's different about being on the road ... "You're sleeping in a different bed and you're not home, but we try to do the same routine whether we're playing at Bradley or a neutral site game like this. I think we'll be ready for it. We eat together, we do everything together so our freshmen should be ready and the upperclassmen are used to it."
On what the team is looking to improve on ... "I think we still have a lot of things to get better at, which is cool that we're 10-0 and can still improve so much. We're just trying to get better every day and improve. There are so many things we've seen in film, whether it's getting in gaps or playing better team defense, that we can get better at in games. Hopefully tomorrow we see improvement and just keep getting better and better with the Big Ten approaching."
U-M Freshman Forward Glenn Robinson III
On the opportunity to play in New York twice this season ... "It's a great experience -- being down there once and witnessing the atmosphere at Madison Square Garden and now going down to the Barclays Center. It's going to be a great atmosphere and it's really unique to play in a different NBA arena. I think we'll have a tough challenge against West Virginia so we just have to be ready to come out and play again."
On Michigan's fan base in New York ... "It's a great feeling. It's just like it's another home game. Last time when we played down in New York, we had fans out that and that gave us energy to go out there and play as hard as we could."
On what the team saw in film that they can improve on ... "We can never let up on any of our opponents, especially on the defensive end. We're going to find good shots, but we have to stay focused on defense and stay calm."
