PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan men's basketball freshman guard Nik Stauskas (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada/St. Mark's School) was today (Monday, Dec. 31) named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the third time this season by the conference office. He earned the freshman accolade in back-to-back weeks earlier this season (Nov. 26 and Dec. 3).

Coming off a nine-day break, Stauskas scored 19 points to help U-M remain undefeated at 13-0 with an 88-73 victory over Central Michigan on Saturday (Dec. 29) at Crisler Center. For the second straight game he knocked down a career-best five three-point field goals, all of which came in the second half, and he finished the game 6-for-10 from the field. He added a career-best seven rebounds in 34 minutes of action.

Stauskas continues to lead the nation in three-point shooting at 56.5 percent (39-for-69). He has made a three-pointer in 13 straight games, with eight games of three triples or more. He is averaging 13.8 points this season.

It is the sixth conference accolade for U-M overall this season. Along with Stauskas' three honors, Trey Burke (Columbus, Ohio/Northland HS) and Tim Hardaway Jr. (Miami, Fla./Palmetto Senior HS) have each earned player of the week honors, while Mitch McGary (Chesterton, Ind./Brewster Academy) has one freshman of the week award.

Michigan will travel to Evanston, Ill., to begin Big Ten play at Northwestern on Thursday (Jan. 3). Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. CST, and the game will be televised on ESPN2.
