Super Bowl

Head coach Jim Harbaugh, center Jonathan Goodwin, and wide receiver Mario Manningham (injured reserve) of the San Francisco 49ers participated in Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans, losing a tightly contested matchup to the Baltimore Ravens, 34-31. The game marked the first time that Harbaugh reached the Super Bowl as a head coach or as a player (Harbaugh was the quarterbacks coach for the 2003 Oakland Raiders who reached Super Bowl XXXVII). Harbaugh is now 27-9-1, including the playoffs, in his first two seasons as head coach of the 49ers, which is good for the third-most wins by a head coach in their first two seasons in NFL history.

Goodwin anchored an offense that led all postseason teams in rushing (218 yards per game) and total offense (473.3 yards per game). Against the Ravens, Goodwin and the offensive line helped the 49er offense grind out 182 yards on the ground and 468 yards in total. This was Goodwin's second Super Bowl, having previously won Super Bowl XLIV as the center for the New Orleans Saints.
