Associate Athletic Director

Bob Lopez is in his first season as associate athletic director for football after serving two seasons as U-M's director of football operations. He oversees the day-to-day administration and operations of the football program.

Lopez has 10 years of experience as a collegiate director of football operations, serving three seasons at San Diego State (2008-10) and five years at UCLA (2003-08).

Lopez brings a wide range of football experience to Ann Arbor, coaching at the high school, junior college and collegiate levels. From 2001-03, he served as executive director for enrollment services and admissions at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire before accepting the operations position at UCLA. From 1987-98, Lopez served in several capacities at Northern Arizona University, including recruiting coordinator and assistant coach, and program coordinator in the Counseling and Testing Center. He also worked in the admissions office for five years, serving the final four of those years as assistant director of admissions.

Lopez began his professional career as a high school teacher and football coach at Loyola Academy in Illinois (1979-81). He then served as an assistant coach at Arizona Western College (1981-83) before becoming head football coach and director of admissions and athletics at Fort Scott Community College in Kansas (1983-87).

A quarterback at Illinois State from 1973-76, Lopez started his final two seasons with the Redbirds. The Chicago, Ill., native graduated from Illinois State in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in science, health and physical education and two years later, earned his master's in education administration (1979).

Lopez and his wife, Nancy, have two sons, Tyler and Daniel.
