ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan football team played its annual Mott Spring Game Presented by PNC on Saturday (April 14) before a crowd of 25,000 inside Michigan Stadium. The game -- which helped raise money for Mott Children's Hospital for the third consecutive year -- was played between Michigan's offense, wearing the traditional blue home uniforms, and the defense, who sported the away whites, with the offense prevailing, 17-0.

The event raised $260,888 in total for Mott. Pledging to match all donations for the third straight year, the Beam family from Brighton, Mich., contributed half of all the money raised on the day.

Two hours before the team took the field, alumni of past Michigan football squads participated in the annual Alumni Flag Football Game, splitting into two teams -- the Maize and the Blue. At the conclusion of the game, which the Blue won, 33-19, Alijah Bradley was named MVP for the second consecutive year. The 5-foot-6 Bradley, who played from 2003-06, was awarded with a 10-foot tall trophy to commemorate his accomplishment.

Televised live by Big Ten Network, the official spring game was comprised of special teams and individual drills, followed by two 30-play halves for the offense and defense.

Senior quarterback Denard Robinson (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach) started the afternoon for the Wolverines, completing two of his three passes for 13 yards in his only seven plays. With significant playing time throughout the game, sophomore/freshman quarterback Russell Bellomy (Arlington, Texas/Martin) threw for 40 yards on 6-of-9 passing.

Four running backs tallied five or more carries on the afternoon, including senior/junior Fitzgerald Toussaint (Youngstown, Ohio/Liberty), who amassed 39 yards on five attempts, and sophomore Thomas Rawls (Flint, Mich./Flint Northern), who scored the game's only two touchdowns while rushing for 42 yards on 10 touches. Sophomore/freshman Justice Hayes (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc Community) also compiled six carries on the ground.

Senior running back Vincent Smith (Pahokee, Fla./Pahokee) carried the ball five times in addition to his two catches out of the backfield for 19 yards. Senior/junior receiver Jeremy Gallon (Apopka, Fla./Apopka) led the receiving core with two catches for 29 yards, while junior/sophomore Jerald Robinson (Canton, Ohio/South) hauled in two balls for nine yards.

Leading the defense was senior/junior linebacker Mike Jones (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) garnering six tackles and senior linebacker Brandin Hawthorne (Pahokee, Fla./Pahokee), who tallied five tackles and an interception. The only other pick came from sophomore corner Blake Countess (Owings Mills, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) and the lone sack of the game came from junior Jibreel Black (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming). All three early enrollees -- safety Jarrod Wilson (Akron, Ohio/Akron Buchtel) and linebackers Joe Bolden (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) and Kaleb Ringer (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) -- made appearances in the game, combining for five tackles.

Midway through the game, sophomore placekicker Matt Wile (San Diego, Calif./Francis Parker) connected on a 43-yard field goal. Prior to the offense and defense taking the field, junior Will Hagerup (Milwaukee, Wis./Whitefish Bay) punted the ball eight times for an average of 46.9 yards, including a long punt of 66 yards.

The Michigan football team opens up the 2012 season on Sept. 1 against Alabama at Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
