U-M coach quotes from Michigan Sports Network postgame show
Michigan Head Coach Brady Hoke
On the game ... "Believe me, there are times in there where we need to play Michigan football, which means we need to play better. We left a lot of points on the field in the first half. We were down in the red zone and for one reason or another we didn't put the ball in the end zone -- we miss a block here, we miss an assignment or whatever it may be -- and Illinois executed, but we need to be much better than we were today next weekend."
On J.T. Floyd's interception ... "J.T. has played good football for us. I like how he's competing, I like how he's challenging receivers in a consistent manner, and when you do that you'll have opportunities to make plays. He sat on the route, knew what was coming, made the break right, and the film studying really paid off."
On sophomore quarterback Devin Gardner ... "He did (make plays), and that's why it's so important to have that second guy who can come in. He did a nice job. He kept his composure, which was part of it, he was poised, and he did a nice job stepping up on the touchdown pass."
On the front four ... "Greg (Mattison) and that staff, and Jerry Montgomery, our defensive line coach, and Mark Smith, and Curt Mallory, they do a nice job planning every week, and I thought they did a great job again."
On Fitzgerald Toussaint... "He is (getting better). I'm glad he's here at Michigan and our running back. There were times when he came out and he would say, 'I need to see that better' or 'I need to put my foot in the ground a little more physically.' "
