Utah Added to 2002 Michigan Football Schedule
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan Athletic Director Bill Martin announced today (Wednesday, Jan. 23) the inclusion of the University of Utah to the Wolverines' 2002 football schedule. The Utes (8-4, 4-2 Mountain West), winner of the 2001 Las Vegas Bowl by a 10-6 score against Southern California, will play the Wolverines on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Michigan Stadium.

"We talked to a number of schools during the process of finding an opponent for our upcoming football schedule, and the University of Utah fit the bill," said Martin. "We are pleased that Utah was able to adjust its schedule in order to play us Sept. 21. This is a one-year, one-time contract and it will provide our football team with another quality opponent."

This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools, with Michigan holding a 2-1 edge against schools that currently comprise the Mountain West Conference (1-0 vs. Air Force and Colorado State, 0-1 vs. Brigham Young). The Wolverines will play seven home games for the first time since 1997, with their only non-conference away contest coming Sept. 14 at Notre Dame (2:30 p.m. EDT/1:30 p.m. EST, NBC Sports).
