ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan football program hosted its Pro Day today (Thursday, March 15) inside Schembechler Hall and Al Glick Field House, where 16 former Wolverines worked out for NFL coaches and scouts.
Forty-one scouts from 29 NFL teams showed up for the event to assess the players in various drills, which included the vertical jump, broad jump, bench press, 40-yard dash, shuttle run, long-shuttle and three-cone drill. Players also split into groups and ran specific positional workouts, such as route-running, pass blocking and defensive drills.
Wide receiver Martavious Odoms pulled off an impressive time in the 40-yard dash, clocking in at 4.39 seconds. Wide receiver Kelvin Grady scored a 4.41 time to go along with his 6.49 time in the three-cone drill, which would have topped all other players in the 2012 NFL Combine. Defensive tackle Ryan Van Bergen compiled 31 reps in the bench press.
Three former Michigan players -- Junior Hemingway, Mike Martin and David Molk -- previously participated in the NFL Combine that took place Feb. 22-28 in Indianapolis, Ind., and participated in limited events.
"It's an opportunity for those guys who have that goal of getting a great education at Michigan and that degree and have an opportunity to maybe go to the next level," said Michigan football head coach Brady Hoke.
"This is one of those days where you're judged with some of the metrics like 40s and shuttle runs, and you look at some of the specific workouts at positions. It's a day for those guys who have given so much to Michigan.
"These are great kids. They've worked hard in the classroom and to represent the university in a positive manner, this is an opportunity for them. And we as coaches -- they're our sons, and this is important."
Former members of the Michigan football team participating in the Pro Day were Tony Anderson, Marell Evans, Grady, Hemingway, Brandon Herron, Mark Huyge, Zac Johnson, Kevin Koger, Martin, Molk, Odoms, Tom Pomarico, Michael Shaw, Van Bergen, Steve Watson and Troy Woolfolk.
The 2012 NFL Draft will take place Thursday, April 26 through Saturday, April 28 in New York.
