ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Five members of the 2002 University of Michigan football team have signed free contracts with National Football League teams this week. Each of the individuals will participate in the team mini-camps in the coming weeks.
Wide receiver Ronald Bellamy (New Orleans, La./Archbishop Shaw HS) was the lone offensive player receiving a free agent deal, signing a contract with the Miami Dolphins.
Safety Julius Curry (Detroit, Mich./Bishop Gallagher HS) received a free agent contract offer from the Chicago Bears. Defensive tackle Shawn Lazarus (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Northwest HS) stayed close to Ann Arbor, signing a deal with the Detroit Lions. Defensive end Dan Rumishek (Addison, Ill./Addison Trail HS) inked a deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, while fellow end Shantee Orr (Detroit, Mich./Denby HS) signed on with the Green Bay Packers.
With six players selected in the 2003 draft, the Wolverines had 11 total players either drafted or sign free agent contracts with teams.
