Lopez Promoted to Associate AD; Jones New Director of Ops

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan football head coach Brady Hoke announced today (Wednesday, May 8) the hiring of Nolan Jones as director of football operations for the Wolverines football program, while Bob Lopez has been promoted to associate athletic director for football.

Lopez, who served the previous two seasons as U-M's director of football operations, will now oversee the administration and operation of the football program with Hoke.

Jones comes to Ann Arbor with 11 years of experience in football operations. He most recently served a brief stint as assistant athletic director for football at the University of Southern Mississippi. He joined the Golden Eagles' staff in January following two seasons as director of football operations at the University of Kentucky.

Prior to Kentucky, Jones spent six years in the Big Ten, serving as director of football operations for five years and assistant director of football operations for one season at Northwestern.

At Kentucky and Northwestern, Jones coordinated the day-to-day internal and external operations for the football program and managed the travel schedule, annual budget and daily schedule for the entire support staff. He also directed the high school camps and coaching clinics, while serving as the liaison to NFL personnel. At Northwestern, he coordinated operations for three bowl game appearances and a 2010 game at Wrigley Field against Illinois.

Prior to his stint at Northwestern, Jones spent one season as director of football operations at Princeton University, where he coordinated the internal and external operations, including all logistical aspects of recruiting. He also served as the liaison for the football program to the athletic department and university.

Jones earned a bachelor's degree in physical education and a master's degree in physical education with an emphasis in sport administration from Eastern Kentucky University. While at Eastern Kentucky, he also served as director of football operations and a graduate assistant coach during the 2003 season.

Jones and his wife, Crystal, have two sons, Brycen and Parker.
