ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan football fifth-year senior left tackle Taylor Lewan (Cave Creek, Ariz./Chaparral HS) was named today (Thursday, July 11) as one of 75 players across the country to the 2013 Outland Trophy preseason watch list. The Outland Trophy is presented to the nation's most outstanding interior lineman by the Football Writers Association of America.
Lewan, one of 10 Big Ten players on the list, was a 2012 All-America first team choice by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, Associated Press, ESPN.com and SI.com. He also was named the Big Ten Rimington-Pace Offensive Lineman of the Year and was an All-Big Ten first team choice by the league's coaches and media during his junior campaign.
A three-year starter, Lewan has opened 35 career games at left tackle, including 28 consecutive.
Earlier this week, Lewan was named to the watch list for the Maxwell Award, which is presented to the most outstanding college football player.
The Outland Trophy winner is chosen from three finalists who are part of the FWAA All-America Team, and the winner will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 12 on ESPN.
The Outland Trophy is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA). The NCFAA and its members are unveiling their preseason watch lists over a 12-day period in July. Fifteen of the association's 21 awards select a preseason watch list.
