ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan football senior/junior quarterback Devin Gardner (Detroit, Mich./Inkster) has been named as the Maxwell Award Player of the Week, the Davey O'Brien Quarterback of the Week and one of eight Manning Award Stars of the Week following his five-touchdown performance in the Wolverines' 41-30 victory over Notre Dame last Saturday.
Fans may vote for Gardner for the Manning Award Star of the Week at http://www.allstatesugarbowl.org/site.php?pageID=19&newsID=625. Voting closes on Thursday (Sept. 12) at noon ET.
Gardner completed 21-of-33 passes for 294 yards and a career-best four touchdowns while rushing 13 times for 82 yards and a score against Notre Dame. Gardner's 376 total yards marked the ninth most in a single game in Michigan history, and he has scored at least two touchdowns in each of his past seven games at quarterback.
Gardner helped the Wolverines to victory in front of 115,109 spectators, the largest attendance of any college football or NFL game to date.
No. 11 Michigan (2-0) hosts Akron (1-1) on Saturday (Sept. 14) at Michigan Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12:01 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised on Big Ten Network.
