University of Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr today indefinitely suspended Wolverine football player Marcus Ray.

Ray, a fifth-year senior tri-captain and strong safety, was declared ineligible by the University of Michigan Athletic Department due to allegations provided by the NCAA this past Tuesday.

University of Michigan Athletic Director Tom Goss informed the NCAA of the athletic department's action today.

A 1998 All-America and Jim Thorpe Award candidate, Ray currently ranks tied for fifth on the team with 14 tackles (nine solo, five assists) this season. He is third in career tackles by a Michigan defensive back with 225 (140 solo, 85 assists) while his 141 interception return yards list ninth all-time at U-M (nine career interceptions). Ray has started 26 consecutive games for the Wolverines and made 32 career starts.
