ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Security measures at Michigan Stadium for this Saturday's University of Michigan football game against Indiana University will be adjusted.
No bags of any size will be permitted in the game, unless allowed by written permission of a medical professional. The bag prohibition includes purses, lunch sacks, binocular cases, fanny packs and diaper bags.
University of Michigan Department of Public Safety Deputy Chief Charlie Noffsinger, who is the game-day law enforcement incident commander, said adjusting security measures is the prudent thing to do. "While we have not received information of any specific threats, we have consulted with federal officials and athletics personnel and believe it is appropriate to adjust some of our security protocols for this Saturday. By prohibiting all bags into the Stadium, we allow our law enforcement personnel to focus their attention on other security measures in order to ensure a safe environment for all."
All fans planning to attend the game are strongly encouraged to get to their Stadium seats earlier. Stadium gates will open at 10 a.m. for the noon game. "We want everyone to be able to see the kickoff, so plan to arrive early," Noffsinger said. "Though we will make every effort to move people through the entrance gates as efficiently as possible, the enhanced security measures probably will cause more delays at the gates."
Patrons planning to attend the game are asked to leave everything at home and bring only their identification and seat tickets or official credentials. Binoculars will be allowed provided they are not in a case and are worn around the owner's neck. Non-pocket seat cushions, cell phones, and clear, sealed water bottles also will be permitted. Any permitted items brought to the Stadium are subject to search.

MEDIA NOTE: Members of the media who will be working at the game and need to bring in bags with equipment should enter through Gate 9 or the tunnel and present a U-M football media credential and photo identification. Please arrive early as your bags will need to be searched by police.
