ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The official University of Michigan football Facebook fan page surpassed 300,000 "likes" this week, continuing to be the top college football fan page in the country.
Michigan athletics continues to be at the vanguard of social media in college athletics with all 27 varsity sports represented on Facebook and Twitter reaching fans in over 20 countries and speaking more than 20 languages. The Michigan football fan page gained 50,000 fans in six weeks thanks to the devotion of one of the greatest fan bases in sports.
"Our fans have been 'All In for Michigan' football since August," said assistant director for athletic media relations and social media director Richard Retyi. "Our fans have been active on the page, commenting on posts, spreading content and sharing photos of their gameday experience. Fans view thousands of our images each week while also enjoying video, written articles and other regular features."
The majority of Michigan football's Facebook fans reside in the state of Michigan, with large pockets of support in Chicago, Toledo, New York City, Dallas, Kansas City, Atlanta and even Columbus. Michigan football fans span the globe from the United Kingdom, Germany, Mexico, France, India, Australia, Japan and Venezuela.
