2009 All-Big Ten Teams
PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan fifth-year senior punter Zoltan Mesko (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg HS), senior defensive end Brandon Graham (Detroit, Mich./Crockett Technical HS) and junior cornerback Donovan Warren (Long Beach, Calif./Polytechnic HS) earned All-Big Ten Conference first team honors, announced tonight (Nov. 23) on the Big Ten Network All-Conference Selection Show. Five total Wolverines were recognized by the league.
Mesko earned first team all-conference from both the coaches and media for the second straight season. He is the first Michigan punter to lead the league in punting during conference play and is the first to lead in all games since Paul Staroba tied for the lead in 1970. Mesko became the 10th punter in Big Ten history to earn first-team honors at least twice in his career. A Ray Guy Award finalist, Mesko punted 52 times for a U-M season-record 44.5-yard average. He had 17 punts over 50 yards, 18 fair caught, three touchbacks and 15 downed inside the opponent's 20-yard line.
The nation's leader in tackles for loss, Graham received All-Big Ten first team honors from both the coaches and media after earning second-team accolades from both groups last season. Graham leads the nation with 25 TFLs this season, including a league-high 20 in conference play, with the next closest player attaining only 14.5 TFLs. He registered a career-best 63 tackles to go along with the 25 TFLs and 9.5 sacks. He also contributed two pass breakups, two forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Graham blocked a pair of punts and returned another for a touchdown.
Warren earned all-conference honors for the first time in his career, receiving first-team selection from the media and a second-team nod from the coaches. He tied for the league lead with four interceptions during conference play. Warren posted career highs in tackles (66), interceptions (four) and pass breakups (11) during the season. He returned one of his picks for a 40-yard touchdown at Iowa.
In addition, senior/junior left guard Stephen Schilling (Bellevue, Wash./Bellevue HS) was selected honorable mention by both the coaches and media. He started all 12 games at left guard for the Wolverines and helped anchor the run game that finished fourth in the conference (186.2-yard average).
Fifth-year senior offensive lineman David Moosman (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville HS) was named Michigan's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient. Moosman started three games at right guard but moved to center for seven starts at the end of the season. He missed the Eastern Michigan game due to a shoulder injury but made starts in 23 of the last 24 games during his career.
