PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan senior left guard and two-time co-captain Steve Hutchinson (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs HS) became the fourth player in Big Ten Conference history to be named to the all-conference first team all four years, with today's (Tuesday, Nov. 28) announcement of the 2000 all-conference team and individual awards.

Hutchinson

Hutchinson, a finalist for the Lombardi Award and an All-America selection, was also tabbed the Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year by the conference coaches. Hutchinson joins former Wolverine defensive lineman Mark Messner (1985-88), Michigan State punter Ray Stackhowitz (1977-80) and Purdue guard Dick Barwegan (1943-46) in achieving four-time All-Big Ten first-team status.

Senior tailback Anthony Thomas (Winnfield, La./Winnfield HS), junior wide receiver David Terrell (Richmond, Va./Huguenot HS) and senior left tackle Jeff Backus (Norcross, Ga./Norcross HS) were named first-team all-conference by both the media and coaches. Defensively, junior inside linebacker Larry Foote (Detroit, Mich./Pershing HS) received first-team recognition from the conference coaches and was selected second-team by the media panel.

The Wolverines had 12 players receive All-Big Ten Conference honorable mention honors by both the coaches and media. This group includes (listed alphabetically): senior center David Brandt (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS), junior punter/placekicker Hayden Epstein (Cardiff, Calif./Torrey Pines HS), junior quarterback Drew Henson (Brighton, Mich./Brighthon HS), junior/sophomore outside linebacker Victor Hobson (Mt. Laurel, N.J./St. Josephs Prep), junior cornerback Todd Howard (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook HS), senior free safety DeWayne Patmon (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry HS), junior wide receiver Marquise Walker (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger HS), senior cornerback James Whitley (Norfolk, Va./Norview HS), senior right tackle Maurice Williams (Detroit, Mich./Pershing HS) and senior nose tackle Eric Wilson (Monroe, Mich./Monroe HS).

In addition, senior/junior inside linebacker Eric Brackins (Pigeon Forge, Tenn./Gatlinburg-Pittman HS) and senior/junior right guard Jonathan Goodwin (Columbia, S.C./Lower-Richland HS) were named honorable mention all-conference by the media.
