Hyun, O'Neill, McIntosh Named Big Ten Golfers to Watch

PARK RIDGE, ILL. -- Senior Noori Hyun(Seoul, Korea/Centreville HS [Va.]) and juniors Chris O'Neill (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run HS) and Brett McIntosh (London, Ontario, Canada/Saunders Secondary School) of the University of Michigan men's golf team were named to the Big Ten's Golfers to Watch list today (Wednesday, Sept. 3).

Through three seasons in Maize and Blue, Hyun has compiled 26 starts in 30 events, carrying a 76.41 career scoring average. Last season, he earned a pair of top-10 finishes and also shot a career-best 54-hole score of 210 at the Puerto Rico Classic. Hyun also posted his career-low scoring average of 75.26, nearly two full strokes lower than his previous best.

An All-Big Ten second team selection in 2013, O'Neill led U-M in seven events during the season, earning his first career win at the Windon Memorial Classic early in the year. He posted a trio of top-five finishes and led the team with a 72.84 scoring average while firing a dozen of his 31 rounds at or under par. After earning an individual invitation to the NCAA Regional, O'Neill became the only Wolverine to start 12 events last season, giving him 23 starts in 23 career events.

Classmate McIntosh also picked up his first career win last year as a sophomore, at the NYX Hoosier Invitational. He carded a career-best 54-hole total of 209 in the event, led by his career-low, tournament-low and U-M single-season individual low 65 in the final round while competing as an individual. McIntosh has made 22 starts in 23 events in two seasons at U-M, and his 73.74 stroke average last year was second only to O'Neill.

The Wolverines open the 2014-15 season by hosting the Wolverine Intercollegiate Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 6-7) at the U-M Golf Course. [ Event Preview ]
