Sept. 18, 2013
PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan sophomore Chris O'Neill (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run HS) was named the Big Ten Men's Golfer of the Week today (Wednesday, Sept. 18) following his career-best performance at U-M's season opener.
O'Neill opened the 2013-14 season in grand fashion, playing to a career-best medalist runner-up finish at the Wolverine Intercollegiate (Sept. 16-17) held at the U-M Golf Course. He closed tallying a career-best seven-under 206 tournament total after rounds of two-under 69, even-par 71 and a career-best five-under 66 in the closing round.
Trailing San Jose State's Cody Blick by eight shots heading into the final round, O'Neill nearly caught Blick for medalist honors following his career-best closing round, falling three shots short. Overall, O'Neill led U-M to a third-place team finish and was the top Wolverine individual for the seventh time in his 13 career events.
The conference accolade is the second for O'Neill. He received the same honor last season (Oct. 17, 2012) following his play at the 2012 MacKenize Invitational.
