The University of Michigan men's golf team continues its fall season heading to Duluth, Ga., for Georgia State's AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic, Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 14-15. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will feature a 14-team field playing at the Berkeley Hills Country Club. The tournament will be set up for a par 72 and 6,694 yards.
The Tournament Field
There will be 14 teams competing in the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic including Chattanooga, Furman, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Kentucky, Mercer, Michigan, Mississippi, South Carolina-Aiken, South Alabama, South Florida, Troy, UNC Greensboro and VCU.
The Tournament Schedule
Sunday, Oct. 13 -- Practice Round, 8 a.m. (shotgun); College-Am (McIntosh), 12:30 p.m. (shotgun)
Monday, Oct. 14 -- First Round (18), begins at 8:30 a.m. (shotgun)
Monday, Oct. 14 -- Second Round (18), continuous playing following completion of first round
Tuesday, Oct. 15 -- Final Round (18), begins at 8 a.m. (tee times off No. 1 and 10)
The Michigan Lineup
Michigan will have five starting Wolverines and two individuals competing at the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic. Starting for the Maize and Blue will be: sophomore Chris O'Neill (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run HS), sophomore Brett McIntosh (London, Ontario, Canada/Saunders Secondary School), sophomore Andrew Yeager (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central HS), freshman Reed Hrynewich (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores HS) and freshman Bryce Evon (Windsor, Ontario, Canada/Vincent Massey Secondary School). Junior Noori Hyun (Seoul, Korea/Centreville HS [Va.]) and freshman Tom Swanson (Missoula, Mont./Loyola Sacred Heart HS) will play as invited individuals.
Tom Swanson will make his collegiate debut at the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic. He missed the first three events while recovering from summer injury.
With the university on fall break, Michigan will travel its full roster to the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic.
Chris O'Neill has shot seven of his nine total rounds under par. He is averaging 70.11 per round and 210.33 per 54-hole tournament. Brett McIntosh is not far from his classmate, averaging 71.89 per round and 215.67.00 per 54 holes.
Reed Hrynewich set new career bests for a single round (73, first) and 54-hole tournament (227) in his second career start (at the Erin Hills Intercollegiate).
Chris O'Neill is averaging 70.33 in his opening rounds and 71.67 in the second round before dropping nearly two shots in his final round, posting a 68.33 per-round average.
Chris O'Neill and Brett McIntosh have not missed a start in their careers, playing in 15 consecutive events. O'Neill has finished as the top Wolverine in nine of his 15 events, while McIntosh has led three times. The duo has finished 1-2 among U-M golfers at an event six times, including all three fall events this season.
Chris O'Neill opened the season winning back-to-back Big Ten Men's Golfer of the Week awards after a second-place finish at the Wolverine Intercollegiate and his first collegiate win (at the Windon Memorial Classic). He has three conference accolades in his career.
Michigan's roster features two left-handed golfers -- sophomore Brett McIntosh and freshman Reed Hrynewich. U-M's last lefty was Kevin Dore (2004-07).
Last Time Out
Chris O'Neill was the top finishing Wolverine for the third straight event as he helped lead Michigan to an eighth-place finish at the Erin Hills Intercollegiate at the Eric Hills Golf Course in Hartford, Wis. The Wolverines posted an 893 (290-305-298) team total, while O'Neill was the top Wolverine, tying for 13th at 217. [ Recap ]
