ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's golf head coach Andrew Sapp announced today (Monday, Nov. 24) the signing of Jack Schultz(Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay HS) to a National Letter of Intent for the 2009-10 academic year.
"We are thrilled to add Jack to our team," said Sapp. "He is exactly what we look for in a recruit; great student, excellent golfer with tremendous national experience. Jack will fit in very well on our squad. His personality and his work ethic show that he is going to continue to improve throughout his college career. With two senior starters graduating, we think Jack will make an immediate impact on our program and will help us continue to improve as a team."
"In the end, I decided to go to Michigan because of the combination of outstanding academics and athletics," said Schultz. "The coaches and team make Michigan a perfect fit for me."
Schultz, who is rated as the No. 31 senior in the class of 2009 by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard, was the 2007 Wisconsin Player of the Year after winning WIAA Division I medalist honors. A 2008 Wisconsin High School first team selection, Schultz is a two-time conference Player of the Year (2007, '08) and a three-time conference first team selection (2006, '07, '08).
During his junior play in 2008, he was the medalist runner up at the Wisconsin's Junior Boy's Championship and the AJGA Future Legends. He added a tie for eighth at the ReBath Heather Farr Classic and a tie for 19th at the HP Boy's Junior Championship. In 2007, he was the medalist runner up at the Midwest Player's Championship and tied for fifth at the AJGA SAP Junior Open. In 2007, Schultz also advanced to match play at US Public Links Amateur.
The Wolverines will lose only two seniors this season, co-captains Bill Rankin(Traverse City, Mich./Central HS) and Nick Pumford(St. Charles, Mich./St. Charles HS).
