ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team accomplished an individual event sweep, won five team events and established season highs on four events in taking down No. 10 California, 439.350-413.400, on Saturday (Feb. 2) at Cliff Keen Arena. Fifth-year senior Syque Caesar (Port Saint Lucie, Fla./ Lincoln Park Academy), the reigning Big Ten and NCAA Gymnast of the Week, equaled his own NCAA record, set last week (Jan. 26), with a 15.90 on parallel bars.
Sophomore Stacey Ervin (Troy, Mich./Truman) notched an event-winning 15.30 on the meet-opening floor exercise. Classmate Taylor Harrower (Dublin, Ohio /Dublin Coffman) scored a career-best 14.75, and U-M jumped in front 75.00-71.15 after one rotation.
Moving to pommel horse, junior Sam Mikulak (Corona del Mar, Calif./ Corona del Mar), who competed on four events on the night, scored a 14.75. Junior Matt Freeman (Canton, Mich./ Plymouth) turned in a career-best and event-high 15.10 to take the second event title of his career and aid in U-M tallying a season-best 74.00.
On still rings, U-M earned a season-high 74.05, which was paced by a career-best 15.00 from senior Rohan Sebastian (Oklahoma City, Okla./ Bishop McGuinness Catholic).
U-M led, 223.05-209.65, heading into the fourth rotation -- vault -- on which the Wolverines collected a 73.40. Sophomore Adrian de los Angeles (Long Beach, Calif./ Millikan) nailed his Kasamatsu one-and-a-half for an event-winning 15.00 as Michigan turned in a 73.40 on the event.
On parallel bars in the fifth rotation, U-M used career bests from junior Jordan Gaarenstroom (Laguna Hills, Calif./Halstrom), who notched a 14.15, and sophomore Nick Hunter (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) with a 14.90. Caesar equaled the NCAA mark to aid in U-M tallying yet another team season high on the event with a 75.60.
With a comfortable lead moving to the sixth and final rotation, the Wolverines dropped their only event on the night to the Golden Bears, 68.60-67.30. A career-best 15.00 from sophomore Michael Strathern (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) led the way, as he captured the second high bar title of his career.
The Wolverines take a week break from team competition, as Ervin, Mikulak and de los Angeles will travel to the Winter Cup Invitational (Thu-Sat., Feb. 7-9) in Las Vegas, Nev.

Michigan had seven career bests on the night: Taylor Harrower (floor exercise); Nolan Novak (pommel horse); Matt Freeman (pommel horse/still rings); Rohan Sebastian (still rings); Jordan Gaarenstroom (parallel bars); Nick Hunter (parallel bars); and Mike Strathern (high bars).
U-M secured season highs on floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings and parallel bars.
Matt Freeman won the Newt Loken Award, given to the night's most outstanding gymnast.
In addition to Stacey Ervin, Adrian de los Angeles and Sam Mikulak, program assistant Ian Makowske will also compete at the Winter Cup.
The performances on rings and parallel bars marked the season debut for Jordan Gaarenstroom.
Adrian de los Angeles won the all-around with an 86.35.
