ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team accomplished an individual event sweep, won five team events and established season highs on four events in taking down No. 10 California, 439.350-413.400, on Saturday (Feb. 2) at Cliff Keen Arena. Fifth-year senior Syque Caesar (Port Saint Lucie, Fla./ Lincoln Park Academy), the reigning Big Ten and NCAA Gymnast of the Week, equaled his own NCAA record, set last week (Jan. 26), with a 15.90 on parallel bars.

Sophomore Stacey Ervin (Troy, Mich./Truman) notched an event-winning 15.30 on the meet-opening floor exercise. Classmate Taylor Harrower (Dublin, Ohio /Dublin Coffman) scored a career-best 14.75, and U-M jumped in front 75.00-71.15 after one rotation.

Moving to pommel horse, junior Sam Mikulak (Corona del Mar, Calif./ Corona del Mar), who competed on four events on the night, scored a 14.75. Junior Matt Freeman (Canton, Mich./ Plymouth) turned in a career-best and event-high 15.10 to take the second event title of his career and aid in U-M tallying a season-best 74.00.

On still rings, U-M earned a season-high 74.05, which was paced by a career-best 15.00 from senior Rohan Sebastian (Oklahoma City, Okla./ Bishop McGuinness Catholic).

U-M led, 223.05-209.65, heading into the fourth rotation -- vault -- on which the Wolverines collected a 73.40. Sophomore Adrian de los Angeles (Long Beach, Calif./ Millikan) nailed his Kasamatsu one-and-a-half for an event-winning 15.00 as Michigan turned in a 73.40 on the event.

On parallel bars in the fifth rotation, U-M used career bests from junior Jordan Gaarenstroom (Laguna Hills, Calif./Halstrom), who notched a 14.15, and sophomore Nick Hunter (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) with a 14.90. Caesar equaled the NCAA mark to aid in U-M tallying yet another team season high on the event with a 75.60.

With a comfortable lead moving to the sixth and final rotation, the Wolverines dropped their only event on the night to the Golden Bears, 68.60-67.30. A career-best 15.00 from sophomore Michael Strathern (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) led the way, as he captured the second high bar title of his career.

The Wolverines take a week break from team competition, as Ervin, Mikulak and de los Angeles will travel to the Winter Cup Invitational (Thu-Sat., Feb. 7-9) in Las Vegas, Nev.
