CHANDLER, Ariz. -- The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team improved to 9-0 this season with a 428.50-408.30 win at Arizona State Wednesday (March 6) at Aspire Kids Center.
Freshman Konner Ackerman (Des Moines, Wash./Mount Rainier) earned his first career win on vault with a 15.35, while junior Sam Mikulak (Corona del Mar, Calif./Corona del Mar) and sophomore Stacey Ervin (Troy, Mich./Truman) tied for second, aiding in U-M scoring a 70.25 on the table as a team.
Mikulak scored an event-best 15.10 on pommel horse, an event where U-M scored a 69.85. The Maize and Blue followed with a 74.50 on rings, led by junior Matt Freeman (Canton, Mich./Plymouth), who won the event with a 15.35.
The 2012 United States Olympic Team member Mikulak added his second win of the night with a 14.60 on parallel bars. Sophomore Taylor Harrower (Dublin, Ohio /Dublin Coffman) rounded out the night with a pair of event titles, scoring a 14.20 on high bar and a 14.75 on floor. The Maize and Blue added to the substantial lead with a 68.70 on high bar and a 70.25 on the floor exercise to close out the victory.
Michigan returns to action after a quick turnaround, hosting No. 3 Oklahoma Saturday (March 9) at Cliff Keen Arena. The meet is slated to begin at 7 p.m. The first 200 fans in attendance will receive Michigan gymnastics tumblers.
