STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The No. 9-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team marked a season-best road score of 405.300 but fell to the No. 7-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions (409.200) on Saturday (March 18) inside PSU's Rec Hall.
The Wolverines (6-7, 3-5 B1G) began the day with a great start, as freshman Mitchell Brown marked a career-best 13.70 on pommel horse in the leadoff spot. He was followed by sophomore Uche Eke, who also marked a 13.70 for a 65.90 team score on horse.
At the midway point of the meet, U-M led 202.400-202.350 coming off a 68.400 team tally on the vault table. Once again, it was Cole that led U-M on the event with a 14.900, while sophomore Marty Strech (14.30) and Brown (14.15) added solid sets.
The Nittany Lions pulled ahead in the fourth rotation, marking a 70.650 on the table to a 68.600 on still rings for the Maize and Blue. U-M was consistent on the apparatus, as all five competitors scored between a 13.65 and a 13.85.
On high bar, the Wolverines hit all five routines, as freshman Thomas Paul marked a career-best 13.65 in the second spot. It was senior Adam Dean that earned a 14.00 on the bar after a minuscule hop as the Wolverines marked a new season-best score of 67.900. Conversely, the Nittany Lions marked a 67.95 on parallel bars to extend their lead to 340.950-338.900.
Parallel bars served as the final rotation, with McCallum pacing the Michigan brigade with a season-best 14.20. However, was the lone Wolverine that broke the 14 plateau on the event as the squad compiled a 66.40.

Following today's final dual road meet of the season, U-M returns home host the UIC Flames on Saturday (March 28) at 4 p.m. inside Cliff Keen Arena. The night will also serve Senior Day, where U-M will honor seniors Adam Dean, Jonathan Chin and Anthony Stefanelli. Admission is free.
