PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan sophomore Adrian de los Angeles (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan) was named Big Ten Men's Gymnast of the Week on Monday (Jan. 21). He receives the award after his season-opening all-around title as the 2013 Windy City Invitational in Chicago on Saturday (Jan. 19).
De los Angeles won the second all-around competition title of his career with a score of 88.40 and set career highs on pommel horse, parallel bars and all-around. He went on to lead the Wolverines on three events, placing second on floor with a 15.25 and third on parallel bars (14.90) and high bar (14.50).
In addition to his trio of top-three finishes, he turned in a 14.75 on pommel horse, a 14.55 on vault and a 14.45 on rings.
The award is de los Angeles' first of the season and first overall Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award of his career after previously winning Big Ten Freshman of the Week last season on Feb. 6. The last Wolverine to take home Gymnast of the Week honors was Sam Mikulak (Corona del Mar, Calif./Corona del Mar), who earned the distinction on March 12 of last season.
The full U-M squad returns to action Saturday (Jan. 26) against No. 6 Stanford as the Maize and Blue opens up its 2013 home slate at 7 p.m. inside Cliff Keen Arena.
