ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team will send a pair of student-athletes in juniors Stacey Ervin (Taylor, Mich./Truman) and Adrian de los Angeles (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan) to the 2014 Winter Cup Challenge at the LV Sports Center in Las Vegas, Nev. The USA Gymnastics sanctioned event will commence on Thursday (Feb. 20) at 6:30 p.m. PST, with finals on Saturday (Feb. 22) at 7:15 p.m. PST.
De los Angeles, who was the NCAA runner-up on floor last season, currently owns the No. 5 all-around score in the country. He will participate in all six events at the meet. In individual events, de los Angeles is ranked No. 8 on floor (15.100) and No. 4 on vault (15.133).
Ervin will compete on vault, parallel bars, floor, high bar and pommel horse at the Winter Cup Challenge. Known primarily for his dynamic tumbling, Ervin is tied for the highest floor exercise score in the country this season (15.60). He is currently ranked as the No. 3 gymnast in the country on parallel bars with a 15.133 average.
The top 42 gymnasts, according to the Men's Program Committee's points ranking system, will advance to the final competition, along with the top three gymnasts on each apparatus. The all-around and individual event champions will be determined via a combined two-day score.
The full U-M squad returns to action on Saturday, March 1, at the OSU Invitational in Columbus, Ohio. The event will be held in Ohio State's St. John Arena.
