Wednesday, March 2, 1 p.m. MST -- at Arizona State (Tempe, Ariz.)
The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team (6-3, 4-2 Big Ten) will travel on spring break this week to Tempe, Ariz., facing off against the Arizona State club gymnastics program at 1 p.m. MST in the Aspire Training Center. This is the first time the two teams will compete against each other.
Last Week: Michigan Falls to Stanford
The Wolverines lost at home for the first time in 2011 last Saturday (Feb. 26) against rivals Stanford, 351.250-346.200. Michigan shined in several areas, scoring season event highs on both pommel horse and vault; redshirt junior Adam Hamers took the pommel horse event title scoring a career high 15.40; and freshman Sam Mikulak won high bar scoring a season-high 14.65. Despite several high points the Wolverines were unable to stay consistent throughout the entire competition, falling apart in the last two events and conceding the victory to Stanford.
Mikulak Wins Second Big Ten Freshman of the Week Honors
Freshman Sam Mikulak was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week this week for his outstanding performance over the weekend against Stanford. Mikulak took the high bar title, scoring a season-high 14.65, and took third place on vault, scoring a 15.85. This is Mikulak's second Freshman of the Week award; the last time came for the week of Feb. 7-11 was for his efforts on vault at the Winter Cup Challenge.
Cameron Featured in New York Times
2010 NCAA All-Around champion Chris Cameron was featured on Feb. 27 in the New York Times, telling the story of overcoming hemihypertrophy, a congenital abnormality that causes one side of the body to grow faster than the other, to guide U-M to the 2010 national title. [ Read Feature ]
Ian's New Skill is Contagious
Senior Ian Makowske invented and is competing a new skill on high bar. The skill is a pike stoop-in hop with a full turn to mixed grip. [ Watch Here ]

Judges have evaluated the difficulty of the skill as and E value move. With direction from Makowske, Kelley has also incorporated the new skill into his routine. Both will be competing the new skill this weekend.
2011 Season Captains
Caesar and Kelley were voted co-team captains by fellow teammates at the conclusion of the 2010 season.
