ANN ARBOR, Mich -- University of Michigan men's gymnastics freshman Tristian Perez-Rivera (Caugas, Puerto Rico/Notre Dame) has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for his vault title at the Arnold Invitational on Saturday (March 1) in Columbus, Ohio. He took home his first career vault title with a 15.10 score.
The title helped the Wolverines (437.50) improve to 14-0 on the season by defeating Ohio State, Iowa, Nebraska, Arizona State and the Canadian National Team.Perez-Rivera also scored a 14.80 on floor exercise to take eighth on the event.
The honor is the first of Perez-Rivera's career. The last Wolverine to earn freshman of the week accolades was junior Stacey Ervin (Taylor, Mich./Truman), who collected the honor on March 15, 2012.
Perez-Rivera will return to his native Puerto Rico during the team's annual Spring Break trip on Friday (March 7) to compete against the Puerto Rican National Team and Penn State in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Meet time is slated for 7 p.m. AST.
