ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's gymnastics team, which has been ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation this season, was selected as the recipient of the February BASF Team Chemistry MVP Award, it was announced today (Friday, March 8). The team will be recognized for its accomplishments at the men's basketball game Sunday afternoon (March 10) vs. Indiana at 4 p.m. inside Crisler Center.

BASF, the Chemical Company, is now proud to be a partner of University of Michigan Athletics. As a result of this new partnership, BASF will recognize one group in the athletic department from across all sports each month that represents the best qualities of team chemistry and its importance both on and off the field.

Led by 17th-year head coach Kurt Golder, U-M picked up a win over No. 10 Cal on Feb. 2, as senior Syque Caesar (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Lincoln Park Academy) equaled his own NCAA record on parallel bars with a 15.90. Against the Golden Bears, U-M earned an individual event sweep and won five team events en route to improving to 7-0 on the season.

The following weekend, sophomore Adrian de los Angeles (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan) earned a spot on the USA National Team at the Winter Cup Challenge in Las Vegas. In two-day scoring, he took second in the all-around, finishing between top finisher Jake Dalton and No. 3 finisher Dannel Leyva, both of whom held spots on the 2012 United States Olympic Team. Caesar's efforts earned him Big Ten Gymnast of the Week. Also at the competition, classmate Stacey Ervin (Taylor, Mich./Truman) represented U-M, taking third on floor exercise in the finals, behind de los Angeles.

The Wolverines' full team competed on Feb. 16, when U-M earned a season-best mark of 446.150 that resulted in a win over No. 5 Ohio State. Ervin notched the top floor score in the NCAA at 16.15. The mark was also the third-highest floor score in NCAA history. As a team, the Wolverines scored season bests on floor, still rings and high bar.

The Maize and Blue is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation and returns to team action on March 9 at 7 p.m. as U-M takes on No. 3 Oklahoma at Cliff Keen Arena.
