PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan junior Stacey Ervin (Taylor, Mich./Truman) was named Big Ten Men's Gymnast of the Week Monday (March 10) after notching the top floor exercise score in the NCAA this season (16.10) in a win over No. 5 Penn State and the Puerto Rican National Team. It is the second conference honor of his career.
The score is just .05 away from the school record that he already owns. In addition to winning the eighth floor title of his career, Ervin scored a 14.20 on high bar as U-M tallied a 438.50 team total in the pair of wins.
He is U-M's first Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honoree this season. The last Wolverine to take home the accolade was senior Sam Mikulak (Corona del mar, Calif./Corona del mar) on March 25, 2013. Overall, this is the second Big Ten weekly honor of the year for U-M, as freshman Tristian Perez-Rivera (Caugas, Puerto Rico/Notre Dame) earned Freshman of the Week honors on March 3.
The Wolverines return to home action Friday (March 14) at 3:30 p.m. inside the friendly confines of Cliff Keen Arena. The meet against the Penn State Nittany Lions will be shown live via the Big Ten Network with Mike Wolf and John Roethlisberger calling the action.
