ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan junior Sam Mikulak (Corona del mar, Calif./Corona del mar) was named NCAA Men's Gymnast of the Week by the College Gymnastics Association on Monday (April 29) after capturing a trio of NCAA titles and six All-America citations and leading the Wolverines to a 2013 NCAA championship last month.
With the six All-America citations in 2013 (all-around, high bar, vault, parallel bars, floor, pommels), Mikulak is now a 13-time All-American and five-time NCAA champion. His win on high bar came via the third-best high bar score in NCAA history (16.10). Mikulak is the first Wolverine in program history to earn six citations and one championship in one season. The previous mark of four was most recently set by Mikulak in 2011.
Additionally, Mikulak is the first Wolverine in school history to win both parallel bars and high bar in the same season.
The weekly accolade is Mikulak's sixth of his career and second of the season. He previously captured the award following the Big Ten Championships.
With the Wolverine team season completed, Mikulak returns to action as member of Team USA at the World Games (July 25-Aug. 4) to be held in Cali, Colombia.
