INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced Thursday (Nov. 1) that the University of Michigan's Crisler Center has been selected as the site of the 2014 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships. The three-day competition will be held at the newly renovated Crisler Center in April 2014.
"Playing host to the NCAA Championships is something we've talked about as a program, and for it to become a reality is special," said Michigan head coach Kurt Golder. "This will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our student-athletes to compete for a national title on our campus, in front of our fans.
"Our goal is to set the NCAA attendance mark for the championship," added Golder. "It won't be easy, but it's definitely something we want to strive to achieve."
This will be the third time the University of Michigan will play host to an NCAA men's gymnastics national championship. Michigan hosted the event in 1951 and 1971, with the latter being held at Crisler Arena.
"We are excited to host the student-athletes, coaches and fans of men's gymnastics for the 2014 national championship," said Dave Brandon, the Donald R. Shepherd Director of Athletics. "This will be a great chance to showcase our first-class facility as well as our institution and the Ann Arbor community. We will work extremely hard to make this a 'wow' experience for everyone attending the championship."
Michigan has finished in the top six at the national meet in 13 of the past 14 seasons under Golder, including national championships in 1999 and 2010 and runner-up finishes in 2000 and 2009.
